It’s my favorite time of year! It’s summertime and that means it’s baseball season!! This week we’re talking all things baseball, and today is all about the St. Paul Saints.
I’m such a huge baseball fan, but for some odd reason I’ve never been to a St. Paul Saints game. That is until last week when I went to my very first game at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minnesota with a friend! Come along as I give some history, share my experience, and provide some pointers for your visit.
If you don’t really follow baseball, let me give you a little bit of history and information about the St. Paul Saints:
The St. Paul Saints are the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins (since recently in 2021). They are located in downtown (Lowertown) St. Paul, playing their home games at CHS Field since 2015. Their prior home was Midway Stadium (previously known as Municipal Stadium) from 1993 to 2014 located at 1771 Energy Park Drive in St. Paul. Since 1993, the primary ownership of the St. Paul Saints has been shared by Marvin Goldklang, Mike Veeck, and Bill Murray (yes, the actor, Bill Murray!). Bill Murray actually handed out programs on Opening Night in 1993! For the full history of the St. Paul Saints going back to 1884, check out Visit Saint Paul.
CHS Field is amazing! It’s an outdoor stadium and because it’s a smaller venue (seating 7,210) it feels very intimate. The seats my friend and I had were in the third row along the third base line, and I felt like I was right on the field. It was so great! CHS Field has drink rail seats at the top of some of the sections. I think I’ll give those seats a go next time I visit – oh for fun! 😉There is also bleacher seating and the Treasure Island berm area.
Saints tickets can be purchased online on the St. Paul Saints website. Fans are encouraged to use digital tickets or print their tickets at home. The ticket office will be open should you need assistance with your order or if you’re looking for additional tickets. See ticket information on the St. Paul Saints website for information on printing your tickets or accessing digital tickets. My friend and I printed our tickets at home, and it worked really well. If you need accessible seating at CHS Field, you can call 651-644-6659. The CHS Field website shows where the field has accessible seating, and be sure to review the CHS Field Accessibility Guide for guests with disabilities. The guide will provide you with a map showing the best places for parking and entering the field.
Although CHS Field is in downtown (Lowertown) St. Paul, I found getting to the stadium and parking to be fairly simple. I encourage you to check out the Getting to CHS Field information on the CHS Field website (also on the St. Paul Saints website) for directions and transportation to get there, and also the parking information for the best places to park. My friend and I drove, and then we parked in the Union Depot Lot B for $15. The Union Depot has three lots with different prices, and there are a number of other ramps and lots around the stadium to park at.
The policy on bringing bags into the stadium is something a lot of people wonder about. Here is information from the St. Paul Saints Ballpark Guide:
“We want your entrance to CHS Field to be as smooth as possible. While we don’t have a size limitation, we ask that you bring in only small purses. Exceptions include medical & diaper bags.”
Do you plan on eating at CHS Field or want to purchase St. Paul Saints merchandise? Be prepared for cashless transactions at all points of sale throughout the ballpark. Exchanging Cash for “Saints Bucks” (in-ballpark currency) at Saints Ticket Office windows or Fan Services remains an option.
CHS Field has a number of concessions stands with a variety of foods including hamburgers, sandwiches, sausages, nachos, stir-fry, ice cream, and much more! CHS Field also has gluten free and vegetarian options. Beverages at the stadium include pop (remember we’re in the Midwest! 😊), water, beer, cocktails, and other non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Of course, there is also a number of snacks and desserts too! Check out the Food Map for all the foods and beverages offered at CHS Field along with a map that shows where they are located. I tried the smoked turkey sandwich on ciabatta with chips, and it was amazing – so delicious!
I’ve heard so much about all the fun activities that happen during the Saints games! Fans can take part in zany, on-field promotions that take place each and every game! The game I attended had races and games going on in between innings – so funny! Other activities include watching for peanuts as the press box tosses them down to the crowd during the seventh inning stretch and interacting with the ushertainers who help promote fun at all of our games by entertaining the crowd. Ushertainers? Yep, the ushertainers (a person, such as a singer, dancer, or comedian, exclusively found at CHS Field, whose job it is to entertain the crowd) walked around the stadium during the game bringing smiles and laughs to the crowd! The Chef came over to our section and hung out with the family in front of us for a while asking the kids questions – it was so great! See St. Paul Saints Entertainment Team for information on all the ushertainers. There are so many other fun activities during the game for adults and kids alike! Take a look at Fan Experiences for additional activities!
Would you like to see more of CHS Field? Schedule a tour! Tours of CHS Field typically include the history of the St. Paul Saints, ballpark project building and design, sustainability, and green initiatives plus much more! Complete and submit the Tour Request Form for more information and available times.
You can also check out the City of Baseball Museum at CHS Field. On Opening Day of 2019, fans got their first glimpse of the 2,000+ square foot City of Baseball Museum, which is located on the third base concourse, between sections 118-120. The Museum includes powerful images, amazing artifacts, and cutting-edge technology all in the effort to bring to life the many stories that have made this city a place where baseball dreams have become reality. Admission into the City of Baseball Museum is free during St. Paul Saints home games with the purchase of your Saints ticket. If you’d like to set up a time to visit the museum outside of St. Paul Saints home games, reach out to museum@saintsbaseball.com to schedule an appointment.
So, are you interested in visiting CHS Field to see a St. Paul Saints game this season? Check out the St. Paul Saints website for tickets! Unfortunately, the Saints lost the game I attended last week; however, I did catch some of the game they played earlier that day due to a rain delay the night before and they won that game! So, YAY for that! Remember also to visit the St. Paul Saints Team Store to purchase Saints merchandise!
Enjoy your time at the ballgame! There’s nothing like it!
