How to Talk Minnesotan

Hello Friends! It was a busy travel weekend in Fargo, ND, and I am so excited to share all the things I discovered with you in future blog posts! For today though the blog post will be short, but full of laughs!

This classic production, “How to Speak Minnesotan,” based on the Howard Mohr book of the same name, will have you laughing out loud as you learn about “How to Talk Minnesotan.” The book was published in August 1987, and it was adapted into this television special (produced by Twin Cities PBS) in January 1993.

Some of the things covered:

  • How to use “You bet,” “That’s different,” and “Whatever”
  • The Power of Negative
  • Minnesota Body Language
  • Eating in Minnesota
  • Hotdishes
  • Accepting on the Third Offer
  • The Minnesota Long Goodbye

My family came across this video a few years ago, and we howled all the way through it! It pokes some fun at Minnesotans by Minnesotans themselves. It is so much fun to watch!

While this video talks about Minnesotans, I think it fits a large part of the Midwest. I hope you enjoy!
