Ellsworth Dairy Cooperative or Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery (Ellsworth, WI)

Friends I am a lover of all things CHEESE!! I think I could live on CHEESE alone! Haha! Recently I visited the great state of CHEESE, also known as Wisconsin, and checked out a well-known cheese shop based in the town of Ellsworth, WI. Come along as I share all about this delightful shop!

Ellsworth Dairy Cooperative (or Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery) is known as the “Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin,” a designation given in 1984 by Governor Anthony S. Earl. The cooperative is 250 dairy farm families strong, who are the owners of the organization.

Ellsworth Dairy Cooperative consists of three production facilities:

  • The Ellsworth, WI facility specializes solely in the production of world-famous all-natural white cheddar cheese curds (both natural and flavored), all natural cheddar cheese curd crumbles, and sweet whey powder. They accept only farmer certified recombinant somatotropin (rBST) free milk from which they produce about 180,000 pounds of 100% all natural premium cheddar cheese curds daily!
  • The Menomonie, WI production facility manufacturers over 80 varieties of small-batch artisan cheeses, including award-winning red rind muenster, Wisconsin brick, and hot pepper jack varieties.
  • In 2018, Wohlt Creamery, in New London, WI, joined the family. Wohlt Creamery represents a 60-year cheese-making tradition. At the New London facility, the customization of process cheese products is their specialty servicing the needs of foodservice, retail deli, and food manufacturers.

Retail consumers will find cheeses under the Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery label in grocery stores and cheese shops, as well the retail locations in Ellsworth and Menomonie, and online through their website.

During my visit to the Ellsworth location, I picked up some yummy snacks including classic white cheddar, ranch, and dill-flavored cheese curds (I wasn’t sure if I’d like the dill flavor, but it wasn’t strong at all, and I absolutely loved it!) along with a brick of cheddar cheese that I shredded and added to tacos. Oh my goodness, friends – so good!! I also picked up a fun magnet for my fridge because I love collecting magnets of places I’ve been to!! The shop also included other souvenirs such as t-shirts and tumblers, and sauces and salsas.

Ellsworth Dairy Cooperative (or Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery) is also the preferred cheese supplier for many local restaurants, providing them with a wide variety of fresh, squeaky cheese curds in different flavors such as classic white cheddar, garlic, Cajun, or ranch-flavored cheese curds.

If you are a lover of all things cheese like I am, definitely check out Ellsworth Dairy Cooperative (or Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery)! You will love it! Enjoy, friends!
